We will install your Starlink satellite dish in Totnes and get you online

Devon was among the initial regions worldwide to gain access to the novel Starlink broadband internet service. Subsequently, this service was extended to encompass the entirety of the Westcountry.

Starlink holds the potential to revolutionize how rural areas connect to the internet, offering impressive speeds of up to 350mbps for downloads and over 20mbps for uploads. Running a home-based business or conducting remote work from even the most secluded locales near Totnes, such as Dartington, Staverton, Harbertonford, Halwell, Morleigh, Harberton, Bridgetown, Cornworthy, Blackawton, Tuckenhay, Ashprington, and the entire South Hams, is now a viable possibility.

Thanks to the low latency of a Starlink connection, it is well-suited for video calling platforms like Zoom and FaceTime, in addition to functioning seamlessly with WhatsApp, mobile WiFi calling, and Digital Voice/VoIP service providers. We have successfully installed over 350 Starlink systems, and our customers have expressed overwhelmingly positive satisfaction with the quality of the broadband connection.

How our service works:

1. Placing the order – Due to current Starlink shipping delays our recommendation is that you place the order for your equipment from John Lewis. Here is the latest link to the standard hardware on their website: https://www.johnlewis.com/starlink-standard-kit-high-speed-low-latency-satellite-internet/p110666150

A further benefit of ordering from John Lewis is that you will receive a two year warranty directly from them. If you have any difficulties placing your order, please get back in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

2. Confirming your order  – Please let us know when you have successfully placed an order for our records so we can book in your installation – you can either give us a ring, e-mail starlink@devoncomms.co.uk or use our new ‘Request an appointment’ form – the form will appear to the side on desktop or below on mobile.

3. Installing your hardware – Starlink requires a clear view of the Northern sky, but depending on the orientation and location of your property, we generally find that there is a suitable place to install the equipment. Our installation service invoices all the brackets, poles and other hardware you need.

The Starlink Version 2 ‘V2’ hardware does not have an ethernet port on the router and comes supplied with a WiFi only connection. You may require an ethernet port to connect your hardware to other networking equipment in your home or business. If this is the case, let us know and we able to supply this for you.

Depending on where your router is located, we may also need to help you install some additional networking equipment to get your internet connection to the right place.

The Starlink monthly service charge is £62.50+VAT (£75.00) and you are not tied into a long-term contract like many of the traditional telecoms providers. Once your new service is up and running you can cancel the broadband element of any existing fixed line services or the entire phone line rental agreement.

Depending on where the dish needs to be mounted a longer cable may be required – the standard cable is 50ft – upgraded 75ft, and 150ft cables are available. Subject to availability, we normally carry these on our vans and are chargeable upgrades.

If you need help with any part of your order, please do not hesitate to give us a call on 01803 501711 – we’ll be happy to talk you through the ordering process over the phone.

We also install 5G and 4G broadband. Visit devoncomms.co.uk/4g-5g for more details.

Wireless Connections / WiFi

Starlink is so fast that the connection can be shared with multiple buildings or neighbours as long as you have a line-of-sight to the other location. This means that you can share the connection with other buildings at your location or share the initial Starlink hardware purchase and monthly charge with someone else.
Starlink delivers fantastic broadband speeds. However, as with all broadband connections, they tend to only include an entry level wireless access point with the included router. Ask us about our mesh wireless access points and UniFi network options if you want the very best WiFi connection available – you can also visit our website for more information – https://devoncomms.co.uk/wifi-installation-devon/

Digital Voice (VoIP) Telephone

If you want to cut the cord completely and retain your landline number, we are able to offer you our Digital Voice (VoIP) service. This service includes unlimited calls to UK landline and mobile phones.
The Digital Voice service works with a free smartphone app which allows you to make and receive phone calls using a landline number from your mobile phone whenever it has an active internet connection (4G/5G or WiFi) or a from a physical corded or cordless phone system connected to your Starlink router (with ethernet adapter). A voicemail service can be configured to email messages from unanswered phone calls.

A major benefit of the Starlink system compared to leased lines is that you’re are not tied into a long term contract. FAQs

Can I use Starlink for online gaming and video streaming?2024-02-19T17:00:54+00:00

Yes, many users have reported that Starlink is suitable for online gaming and high-quality video streaming. The low latency and relatively high speeds make it well-suited for real-time applications like gaming and video conferencing.

How does Starlink achieve high speeds?2024-02-19T17:01:10+00:00

Starlink’s high speeds are attributed to several factors:

  • Low Earth Orbit (LEO): Starlink satellites operate in low Earth orbit, reducing the distance that data signals need to travel, which leads to lower latency and faster speeds.
  • Frequent Satellite Passes: With many satellites in the constellation, there’s a higher chance of a satellite being in range at any given time, resulting in more consistent and reliable speeds.
  • Advanced Technology: Starlink satellites use advanced phased-array antennas and laser communication to optimize data transmission, enabling faster and more efficient communication.
Is Starlink faster than traditional satellite internet?2024-02-19T17:01:16+00:00

Yes, Starlink is faster than traditional satellite internet. Traditional satellite internet has been known for high latency and relatively slow speeds due to the signal having to travel great distances between the Earth and geostationary satellites. Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellites significantly reduce this latency and provide faster speeds.

How fast is Starlink?2024-02-19T17:01:24+00:00

Starlink promises internet speeds that can range from 75 Mbps to 350 Mbps or more. Starlink aims to continually improve and upgrade its system to enhance the speed and overall performance.

What is Starlink?2024-02-19T17:01:30+00:00

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation being developed by SpaceX to provide high-speed, low-latency internet access to underserved and remote areas around the world. It consists of a network of thousands of small satellites orbiting the Earth.

How much does Starlink installation cost near Dartmouth?2023-11-23T12:37:02+00:00

What are the advantages of Starlink over traditional broadband?2024-02-19T17:01:39+00:00
  1. Blazing-Fast Speeds: Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellites reduce latency, delivering speeds comparable to or even exceeding traditional wired broadband connections. This is a game-changer for activities like video streaming, online gaming, and data-intensive work tasks.
  2. Reliability: Traditional internet services in rural areas are susceptible to outages due to weather conditions or infrastructure issues. Starlink’s satellite network is designed to provide a consistent connection, unaffected by terrestrial challenges.
  3. Total coverage: Whether you’re nestled in the heart of the rural South Hams or perched on a hillside above Slapton, Starlink’s satellites can reach you. This global coverage ensures that you’re never limited by your geographic location.
